Major Update: Great North Leisure Park Hearing Announced – Join Us at City Hall

We have now reached a critical moment in the future of the Great North Leisure Park.

Following Barnet Council’s decision to refuse the application, the Mayor of London has taken over the decision-making process. A public Representation Hearing has now been scheduled where the final decision will be considered.

📍 Date: 27 May 2026
🕑 Time: 2:00pm
📍 Location: City Hall, The Chamber (Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE)
💻 Also available online

This is a crucial stage. The hearing is where arguments for and against the development will be heard directly before a final decision is made.

Why this matters

The proposed development would see the loss of a much-loved leisure space used by thousands of local people, a huge risk to the Glebelands Nature Reserve and a colony of protected Great Crested Newts and a severe lack of infrastructure, including public transport links and health facilities. And all this for a totally unsuitable dense block of mainly unaffordable tower block flats. The strength of community opposition has already had a major impact, helping secure Barnet Council’s refusal.

Now, the decision rests with the Mayor.

Our North Finchley will be there

Our North Finchley will be organising representation to speak at the hearing and ensure the community’s voice is heard clearly and powerfully.

There is limited time for speakers, so we will be working to coordinate contributions and make the strongest possible case.

Come along and show your support

The hearing is open to the public, and we strongly encourage supporters to attend in person if you can, or watch online.

Having a visible community presence makes a difference. It will show our Mayor just how much this matters to local people.

What you can do now

  • Save the date: 27 May
  • Plan to attend or watch online

This is a pivotal moment for North Finchley. Together, we have already made a huge impact, now we need to show that the community is still standing strong!
