We have just launched a new petition with others in the local community to protect one of Finchley’s most precious natural habitats: Glebelands Nature Reserve.
This wild green space is home to great crested newts, bats, and other protected species, but it is now under threat from a major redevelopment at the Great North Leisure Park (GNLP).
The developers have failed to carry out a proper ecological survey, and yet the Council may be preparing to decide on the scheme as early as December. Approving it without key ecological evidence would put the Council in breach of its legal biodiversity duties under the Environment Act 2021.

👉 Save the Great Crested Newts and All Protected Species at Glebelands Nature Reserve
Why this matters:
- Glebelands is one of the last remaining wild spaces in our area, rich in biodiversity.
- The great crested newt is a protected species and requires proper surveys and mitigation.
- If the application is approved without this, it could set a dangerous precedent.
- We believe that if the law is not followed, we will have no choice but to launch a legal challenge.
This is an urgent moment for our community to come together and protect local nature for future generations. Add your voice and help us put pressure on the Council and Mayor to reject these unlawful and damaging plans.
